This design was inspired by the cedar house posts outside The Waterstone building at 45603 Yale Rd.
It represents two ancient rivers’ journey towards each other, becoming something greater together: a place where salmon begin and end their remarkable journey, where communities have gathered for generations, and where the rhythm of nature continues to shape the land.
The spirit of the rivers emerge from the flowing currents, their hair becoming the rivers themselves as they twist, swirl, and carry life towards the ocean. One cradles a single salmon egg; the other welcomes the venturing salmon home after its four-year journey, completing a cycle as old as the rivers themselves.
Throughout the design, there are four circles representing the seasons. These circles and adjacent lines imply and symbolize activities that take place in these rivers, namely rafting, swimming, fishing, and prayer.
Above it all is Mount Cheam, source of the river and witness to the river’s strength and stories. Below is a war canoe, demonstrating tradition, teamwork, connection, and strength.
This design honours the enduring relationship between land, water, salmon, and community – a reminder that, like the river themselves, home is strongest when lives come together.
